HON for Free?

Received an email from HON....FREE account for a few days!  Yay...

To kick off the HoNiversary celebration, we are offering 11 days of FREE-to-play. Starting today (Thursday, May 12) at 9 p.m. EST new players will be able to sign up and play at no cost. Grab your friends and get your game HoN. The F2P session ends Sunday, May 22nd at 12 a.m. EST. To join, new players simply need to download the game and register a HoN nickname at:

Heroes of Newerth - Is it free?

Looking at my analysis of website usage, I see that people are concerned if Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is free.  Well, how do I break this news to you...No.

It used to be free when it was in beta, but now that it is not and it is now a released version, it is not free.  You can buy the released version for $30.00 and play it for life (there is no monthly service charge.  Once you buy it, it is yours to play forever (like starcraft, diablo, or warcraft III (not World of Warcraft))).

BUT!!!!

Every now and then, S2 gives out free days, weeks, weekends.  Make sure you sign up with them here and download a free copy (not playable until you pay, or there is a free week).  They will send emails informing you about free days.

Heroes of Newerth Closed Beta Key Open Registration

Not sure if it will work for everyone, but HON has released a link for open registration.  You can try your luck

If that does not work, try adding yourself to their fan page on facebook and then try it again.

Heroes of Newerth Closed Beta Key Giveaway

To those lucky few who read my page. I am giving away one beta key!!

How do you enter.  Simple.  Make a single comment on this post....you can browse other pages if you'd like =D (Do not make more than one comment.  Doing so will disqualify you from the drawing).
Don't forget to leave an email address for contact.

How I will choose the winner:
I will use random.org to generate a random number.  Each comment will be given a number starting from the number one.  The number that random.org gives me will be the number that wins.
For example.  Lets say I have 10 comments.  Each comment will be given a number (So the first comment is number one, the second is number two...etc...).  If random.org gives me the number 3, then the third commentor is the winner.  If that commentor left more than one comment, he/she is disqualified and I will re-draw a number.

Heroes of Newerth Lawsuit?

So there has been many things floating around the internet claiming that HoN is being sued by blizzard for copyrights.

The big claim is that the custom created maps on Warcraft 3 (WC3) are the property of WC3.  Every player had to agree to TOS before playing the game, therefore DotA is the property of blizzard.

The biggest counter argument however is that "blizzard does not own the concept of DotA, or the concept of RTS, MMO, or action RPG" (Ashigaru 2009).

Heroes of Newerth Beta Key Update

Heroes of Newerth is getting ready to send out 75,000 beta keys. Fan them on facebook to make sure you get one. More info here. Look for edit 8/24/09 @ 6:42 PM.

Heroes of Newerth

Heroes of Newerth (sounds like New Earth) is a new game based off of the popular game in Warcraft III -- DotA.
The creators of DotA created this game separate from Warcraft III and is currently in beta testing. They gave out free beta keys on facebook for everyone who fan'd them. They are currently out of beta keys, but HON released some beta keys to certain sites like http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/hon-beta-giveaway/
